News on Application of Biodiesel-Airplane Fuel
As the European Union is charging the airline companies on the oil carbon tax, and the amount is going to increase, biodiesel is becoming an alternative fuel to use to avoid the tax. The Holland airline started to use blended oil (50% of biodiesel) on their planes, recently, 2000 tons of waste oil was bought from shanghai to be made into airplane fuel by their technical staff, so it seems that the biodiesel can be put into use with a little push of the government policy, so why can’t it be promoted to large-scale use in China? Here are the two main reasons:
- The cost of biodiesel production is higher than the oil, the Holland airline once states that the biodiesel is 3x of oil.
- The waste-oil resource is not sufficient, a lot of restaurant owners prefer to sell the waste oil to a large number of illegal purchasers who process the oil into edible oil by refining, and their price is higher than the bio-energy companies, thus the resource and profit margin is severely compressed.
In China, oil and bio-energy industry has the government subsidies support on research and production of bio-fuel, part of the high cost of application of bio-energy has been transferred to the taxpayers and airline passengers, while I think that it is the enterprise’s responsibility to lower the expenses of using bio-energy and make this industry profitable, bio-energy companies should invest more money into research and upgrading the biodiesel equipments, if bio-energy is put into large scale of using, we would have a better environment and less worried about the edible oil resource any more.
